GIRL GUIDES – COME ALONG AND TEST YOUR NAVIGATION SKILLS

Hey guides and leaders, how would you like to do a real life Pokemon GO / adventure race?

On Sunday afternoons from October 13 to December 15, orienteering clubs will be putting on events along Botany Bay and the Cooks River that are ideal for beginners and experienced orienteers.

Each week is in a neighbouring location, so you are never too far from the previous event – but with a new area to explore. The navigation is of an easy standard and you won’t need a compass (although it can be handy sometimes). Map samples are below.

You may start any time between 4-5pm. Courses close at 6pm. You could use this activity to earn badges or just do it as a fun activity with your Unit. There are 4 courses on offer.

Equipment supplied – you just have to rock up.

We recommend groups of 2-4. The cost is $5 per Guide. Accompanying adults are free.

All the series information is here. See also the series Facebook page.

We’d love to see you at one of these events.

If you intend to participate, please bear in mind the following tips for a successful outing:

  • let us know a few days in advance how many people (leaders/parents + children) will be participating and which course you’d like to do. This way we can be sure to print enough maps (everyone gets one!)
  • if you know who’s coming, please provide the names of the people in each group in advance and we can do a lot of the rego prior to the event (saving a lot of time on the day)

Feel free to contact us at any time for more information. You can find out how orienteering works in these great UK intro videos here.
