Selection Process
When applying for an International event, all applicants must be interviewed by a Region panel, usually consisting of the Region International Adviser, the Region Leader or her representative and at least one other independent person, such as the Region Outdoor Activities Adviser. This process is needed to ensure that all applicants are suitable candidates to represent Guides Australia as well as to rank them in order of priority in case there are more applicants than places available to Australia. Each country invited to an international camp is usually given a strict quota of Guides and Leaders.
The application form is quite lengthy in terms of the panel's recommendation and comments and completion of all selection criteria takes some time. Consequently, the Region closing date for all international camps is 1 month earlier than the Guides NSW closing date. This gives us the opportunity to convene a suitable interview panel. Applications need to be sent to the Region International Adviser by the Region closing date. Please contact Angela Millard for futher details.
The interviews will generally be held at the Region Centre. The Guides and Leaders will be expected to present wearing their official uniform and will be asked questions about their Guide knowledge, Australian knowledge and their wish to represent Guides Australia. This could take up to half an hour each. Although this is a formal process, the interview panel will try to keep the interviewees as relaxed as possible.
